As Chinese New Year approaches, the streets of Ipoh usually buzz with excitement and anticipation, with vibrant decorations adorning every corner and families eagerly preparing for the festivities. However, amidst the joyous atmosphere, it’s crucial to remember those who may not have the means to celebrate.

This year, the Perak Women for Women Society (PWW) has once again taken a proactive stance to ensure that the spirit of giving extends to uplift the underprivileged in our community through their CNY Cheer Drive.

The initiative, led by PWW Ms. Yip Siew Keen and a dedicated team of volunteers, aimed to provide essential groceries and festive treats to families facing financial hardships. From rice and cooking oil to CNY cookies and mandarin oranges, the generosity of donors and sponsors poured in, ensuring that no one was left behind during this joyous season.

Families queue patiently ( as early as 7.30am) outside the PWW Shop to collect essential groceries and biscuits during the CNY Cheer Drive.

The turnout was heartening, with approximately 150 families attending our CNY Cheer Drive to collect groceries,” shared Ms. Yip Siew Keen. “It’s truly uplifting to see the community unite in support of those in need, and each grocery bag distributed helps them tide over during the festivities.”

The distribution efforts were met with touching scenes of gratitude and joy. For those unable to collect personally, PWW volunteers went the extra mile, ensuring that no one was left out, especially families in areas like Kg Tawas, Buntong and further.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the community for their unwavering support and kind donations,” expressed Ms. Yip Siew Keen. “Your contributions have not only provided essential assistance but also reminded us of the power of compassion in times of adversity. Together, we have brought joy and relief to those in need, and I am humbled by the kindness of our community.”

However, the impact of PWW’s initiatives extends beyond immediate relief. Through the PWW Shop, managed by the society, you can support the cause indirectly by purchasing beautifully crafted items made by women from various backgrounds. From batik aprons to handwoven bags, each purchase contributes to the sustainable income of these women, empowering them to support their families.

Add a Touch of Tradition: New and beautifully sewn Angpow purses for sale at the PWW Shop. Sized at 5” x 8” and priced at RM25 each, these make perfect CNY gifts while supporting the empowerment of women in the community.

Your support, whether through donations or purchases, goes a long way in making a difference in the lives of the underprivileged in our community.

For those who wish to contribute directly, donations can be made to CIMB Account No. 8004882245 (Persatuan Wanita Perak Untuk Wanita). Additionally, you can visit The PWW Shop.
