PPA Holds Annual Luncheon

by LKT

The Perak Parkinson’s Association (PPA) held their annual luncheon today, in conjunction with April being Parkinson’s Awareness Month.

While this was a good event for strengthening the bonds and camaraderie of the association’s members and other associates, its purpose was to create further awareness of Parkinson’s disease to the general public.

As the organising chairman, Mr. Chooi Yiew Kheong stated, “If any of your friends or relatives are confirmed or suspected to be Parkinson patients, you are encouraged to bring them forward and join us, so that we can help guide you to face this sickness in a proper way, and hopefully, he or she can live a healthier and happier lifestyle.”

Chris Chai, president of the PPA, would echo these remarks, stating “I would like to re-emphasize that PPA is a support group for people with Parkinson’s Disease. We are here to support and empower individuals living with Parkinson’s Disease. We are not only raising awareness but also taking concrete steps to make a difference in their lives.”

The guest of honour for this event was YB Jenny Choy, who reiterated the points made, stressing the importance of early detection and providing the patients with a good quality of life. She would then present a mock cheque for RM5,000.00 to help the association in their mission.

In addition to performances by Parkinson’s Disease patients showing off their exercise routines, there was also a presentation by dietician Ms. Yeoh Chai Yen from Bolt & Nut Medical Nutrition Therapy Centre. Ms. Yeoh gave a very comprehensive presentation which emphasised the many factors that go into each individual’s diet, from the appearance and texture of the food, down to how food may taste different for people taking certain medications.
