Passenger express bus caught fire

KUALA KANGSAR: Passengers aboard an express bus faced harrowing moments when the vehicle caught fire at Kilometer 242.3 on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) northbound last night.

At the time of the incident, the bus was carrying 16 passengers.

The Fire and Rescue Department received a call regarding the incident at 12:01 AM before dispatching vehicles from the Kuala Kangsar and Meru Raya Fire and Rescue Stations.

Operation Commander Mohd Fawwaz Abdul Jamil stated that the firefighting operation involved 16 firefighters.

“In the incident, an express bus was estimated to be 80 percent engulfed in flames.

“There were 16 individuals inside, including the driver, all of whom were safely evacuated to another bus upon the fire brigade’s arrival at the scene.

“The firefighters commenced firefighting operations upon arrival at the scene.

“The fire was brought under control by 12:51 a.m. and completely extinguished by 1:34 a.m.,” he said.
