Mak Tam’s Nasi Talam Set – Malay Traditional Taste!

By: Rosli Mansor Ahmad Razali

Just mention Lenggong and the thought of the delicious traditional Malay cuisine served in a ‘talam’ (tray) immediately comes to mind.

Mohd. Azrul Azim, a visitor from Kuala Lumpur, said that besides exploring the historical treasures, tasting the village-style cuisine, especially grilled fish and fermented fish (pekasam), is one of his main objectives when visiting Lenggong.

“Lenggong is my choice destination whenever I want to enjoy traditional Malay cuisine.

“Grilled fish is my family’s favourite menu. The grilled fish in Lenggong has a distinct deliciousness. The fish source is from Tasek Raban, it tastes sweet and appetizing when eaten with Air Asam.

“In addition, dishes like Ikan Masak Lemak Cili Api, Pekasam (Fermented Fish), and Kerabu Pucuk Paku (Salad) are among the dishes you must try when in Lenggong,” he said during an interview at Warong Mak Tam in Kampung Pangkalan, Lenggong, recently during the introduction tour of the Perak Agrotourism Carnival 2024 organized by the State Agricultural Development Corporation (SADC), Perak.

Warong Mak Tam is indeed renowned for its ‘Nasi Talam Set’. Although its dishes are simple, they are undeniably appetite-opening.

The set comes with four types of dishes: Ikan Masak Lemak Cili Api, Ikan Loma Goreng, Kerabu Pucuk Paku, and various salads including Sambal Belacan.

The price of one set is RM40.00 and is suitable for four people to enjoy.

For those who wish to try, you can contact Pak Tam (0199795538 or 0195469302). Warong Mak Tam operates every day except Friday.
