IPOH, Jan 21 – Kek Look Tong Cave, a popular tourist attraction in Ipoh, has been temporarily closed due to severe flooding in the area.
The closure has raised concerns following a viral video on social media showing a rockfall near the cave’s entrance.
The footage has sparked various speculations among netizens, with many assuming that the incident poses a serious safety threat to visitors.
However, as of now, no official statement has been released by the management of Kek Look Tong to clarify the situation.
Reporters from Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic who visited the site observed that the cave remains closed, with notices prohibiting entry displayed around the entrance.
Efforts to obtain further clarification from the management were unsuccessful as the security personnel on duty declined to comment on the viral video.
To verify the reasons behind the closure, Ipoh Echo attempted to contact the cave manager but was unable to secure cooperation or clarification regarding the decision.
The incident has also raised questions among the public, especially tourists eager to understand the actual situation at the site.
Local tourist Mohd Azmi Mohd Noor, 45, expressed confusion over the cave’s closure after visiting the location to find out more.
“Is the management trying to hide something about the cave’s closure from the public? The viral video on social media clearly shows a structural rockfall at the cave in October 2024, but it remains a mystery to this day.
“As a tourist, I hope the authorities and the state government will step in to investigate and provide accurate information so that the public knows the reasons for the closure and when it will reopen,” he told Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic.
He also stressed the importance of the Kek Look Tong management addressing the public’s concerns to ease worries and protect the reputation of the tourist attraction.
“This step is crucial to restore tourists’ confidence in the safety of the site once it reopens,” he added.
