MPM makes recycling mandatory for staff with launch of ‘Trash4Cash’ program

By Zaki Salleh

MANJUNG: Recycling practices will become a must among the staff of the Manjung Municipal Council (MPM).

This is following an initiative to make it mandatory for all local authority staff to participate in the ‘Trash4Cash’ program, which involves exchanging recyclables for money.

MPM announced that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with WastetoWalth Holdings (M) Sdn. Bhd. for a one-year period.

WastetoWalth Holding is the company responsible for running the ‘Trash4Cash’ program.

Through this MoU, WastetoWalth will collaborate with MPM to implement green initiatives by providing a drive-thru recycling machine called the Automatic Drive-Thru Recycling Centre (ADTReC).

“Additionally, the Trash4Cash recycling culture program will also be introduced as a monthly activity for MPM staff.

“Under this program, all MPM staff are required to register as participants in Trash4Cash, where they need to bring recyclables every month.

“Participants who submit recyclables will be paid based on the current rate, depending on the category and weight,” said the statement.

Earlier, the MoU was signed by the Secretary of the Municipal Council, representing the MPM President, Mohd Helmi Arifin, and the Chairman of WastetoWalth Holding, Ir. Mohamad Saiful Anuar Zainal.

It is hoped that this effort will promote a recycling culture among MPM staff and the municipal community.

This will, in turn, contribute to more sustainable environmental preservation.

Currently, one unit of ADTREC has been placed at the grounds of Masjid Haji Isa, Batu 8, Lekir, and has been operational since January.

MPM also plans to add another ADTREC machine for community use.
