IPOH: A total of 937 candidates in Perak scored straight As in the 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination, an increase from 772 candidates in 2023.
The state also recorded an improved State Average Grade (Gred Purata Negeri, GPN) of 4.63 compared to 4.75 the previous year.
State Education Department director Safuan Raba’ai said 93.86% of candidates, or 25,774 students, qualified for the SPM certificate this year, up from 25,227 candidates in 2023.
“A total of 27,459 students sat for the 2024 SPM examination in Perak across 323 examination centres from Dec 2 to Feb 6,” he said during a press conference at the State Education Department office on Wednesday (April 24).
Safuan also highlighted the performance of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bawong in Kampung Orang Asli Bawong, Sungai Siput, which achieved a 100% pass rate.
He added that 560 of the candidates were Orang Asli students.
