IPOH: Students from Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) recently engaged with the Orang Asli community in Kampung Kelewang, located within the Royal Belum State Park in Gerik, as part of a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.

The programme aimed to instill awareness of waste management and hygiene practices through an interactive theatre session organised in collaboration with Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Perak (PKNP).

It follows an initial study conducted on 29 September 2024.

The interactive activities involved 50 children aged five to 12 and mothers from the village. They participated in theatre segments, hygiene awareness activities, and hands-on learning sessions led by 30 UTP students and lecturers.

PKNP and UTP will use the feedback and observations gathered from the session to shape future community-based learning programmes.

The initiative also received support from the Perak State Park Corporation (PTN), the Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA) Perak, and the Hulu Perak District Forestry Department.

This initiative reflects PKNP’s ongoing commitment to supporting the Perak Sejahtera 2030 agenda under the “Komuniti Sejahtera” and “Santuni Orang Asli” flagship programmes.
