IPOH: Not only does it simplify the marriage process, but it is also aimed at encouraging young people with limited financial means to start a family.

That was among the objectives of the Majlis Nikah Jamaie Syarie (Sharia-Compliant Mass Wedding Ceremony), which saw several couples getting married together on Sunday.

A total of seven couples took part in the event organized by the Ipoh City Council (MBI) in collaboration with Masjid Muhibbuddin Shah and the MBI Islamic Welfare Association (PERKIP).

Each couple only had to pay RM3,000, with all preparations arranged by the organizers.

The event was made even more special as it was held in conjunction with the 37th Anniversary Celebration of Ipoh’s city status, and all the couples were born in Perak.

The solemnization ceremony took place at Masjid Muhibbuddin Shah Mosque, while the wedding reception was held at the Ipoh Convention Centre.

“One of the aims of organizing this event is to ease the marriage process for young people in Ipoh.

“In addition, it helps foster community bonds and positions MBI as an organization that is sensitive and concerned about humanitarian and social welfare issues in the city.

“Nearly 1,000 people attended the event, including family members of the newlyweds,” said an MBI statement.
