From Kitchen Waste to Garden Gold: Bokashi Composting Workshop Empowers Eco-Warriors

By Owen Lee
In an effort to promote sustainable living and reduce kitchen waste, a hands-on Bokashi Composting Workshop is set to take place this June, where it will offer the chance to turn food scraps into nutrient-rich soil.
The workshop, which runs on 1st June (Sunday) and 7th June (Saturday), will be held at IpohRefill Zero Waste Store. It provides the participants with a practical guide to the art of Bokashi composting — a Japanese technique that ferments food waste using beneficial microbes. This method not only speeds up the composting process but also minimizes odour, making it perfect for home use.
For just RM120 per person, attendees will receive a Bokashi Starter Kit, including everything needed to begin composting at home. An additional RM80 will secure a second set along with 2KG of extra bran, ideal for those looking to scale up their composting efforts.
The workshop promises an engaging and educational experience, transforming the way participants view food waste while encouraging environmental stewardship. From banana peels to coffee grounds, what was once discarded can now nourish the soil and closing the loop on kitchen waste.
Spaces are limited, and with interest in eco-friendly living on the rise, early booking is encouraged. To reserve a spot, interested participants can contact 012-6560816.
