IPOH: The recent tragedy in Teluk Intan, which claimed the lives of nine members of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU), serves as a stark reminder of the importance of preparedness among civil servants.
Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the incident highlights the need for swift action and a people-first approach during crises.
“Every task carried out by a civil servant is not merely a career obligation but a duty and service that benefits the wider community,” he said.

Saarani spoke at the 2024 Excellent Service Award (APC) ceremony for the Perak State Secretary’s Office, held at AC Hotel by Marriott on Monday.
He further stressed the need for public servants to carry out their responsibilities with integrity, accountability and professionalism, while continuously adapting to new challenges for the well-being of the people.
A total of 71 civil servants were honoured at the event, including 64 officers from the State Secretary’s Office and seven from the State Treasury Office.
The Special Award from the Perak State Secretary was also presented to Azahari Effendy Abd Rahim, Chief of Protocol and Ceremonial Unit, who received a trophy and RM1,000 cash prize.
