Creative Student Ideas Shine in Short Video Contest Promoting Circular Economy

IPOH, June 19 — A blend of student creativity and teacher collaboration has earned Sekolah Menengah Raja Perempuan (RPS) the top spot in a short video competition promoting the benefits of the circular economy.

RPS was crowned the champion of the 2025 Ipoh City Council-level Circular Economy Short Video Competition for Kinta Utara secondary schools.

As winners, the school received RM1,000 in cash and a certificate of achievement.

Second and third place went to SMK Wira Jaya and SMK Rapat Setia, who were awarded RM750 and RM500, respectively.

In the primary school category, SK Methodist (ACS) Ipoh took first place, followed by SK Marian Convent and SK Tanah Hitam in second and third place.

Meanwhile, SMK Wira Jaya and SK Jelapang won the “Most Viewed Video” category on YouTube, each taking home RM300.

The competition featured participation from 11 primary schools and nine secondary schools in the Kinta Utara district.

The event aimed to increase students’ understanding and awareness of environmental sustainability through recycling-related initiatives.

It also highlighted the importance of reintegrating resources into the environment and economy through reuse and waste prevention strategies.

Participants submitted videos showcasing circular economy activities that contribute to environmental conservation and preservation.

Ipoh Mayor Datuk Zamakhshari Hanipah was present to present prizes to the winners.
