IPOH: A total of nine students from several secondary schools around Ipoh have been selected to participate in the Ipoh City – Medan City Student Exchange Program, which will take place from June 23 to June 29.
The selected students, aged between 16 and 18, consist of seven boys and two girls. They will be accompanied by two chaperones from the Ipoh City Council (MBI).
During the program, the students will stay with specially selected host families to provide them with a direct cultural experience and foster cross-border family values.
The program is organized in collaboration between the Ipoh City Council and the Office of the Mayor of Medan, which acts as the main coordinator in both countries.
This initiative aims to strengthen the longstanding relationship between the two cities, which have been sister cities since 2009.
A certificate presentation and program briefing ceremony was held today at the VIP Room, UTC Perak, for the selected students.
The Director of Urban Community Development, Romzi Zamri, officiated the ceremony and delivered a short speech outlining the objectives and guidelines of the program.
Romzi said the program not only offers students the opportunity to gain international exposure but also broadens their understanding of foreign cultures and lifestyles.
“It is hoped that this will create long-term connections between the younger generations of both cities,” he said.
