KAMPUNG GAJAH – The rural community of Kampung Makmur has achieved a significant milestone with the launch of three catfish-based downstream products, marking the success of their Sejati Madani community project.

The project, spearheaded by the Kg Makmur Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK), saw 17 participants trained in the production of processed catfish items such as fish balls, fish cakes, and the innovative Butter Garlic Herb catfish fillet, all made from home-grown freshwater fish.

With RM10,000 in funding, participants also received training in product packaging, branding, digital marketing and basic accounting, equipping them with essential skills to grow their ventures.

The launch, held at Pasir Salak Community College, was officiated by Khairul Azwan Harun, Special Officer to the Perak Menteri Besar for Kampung Gajah constituency.

He urged JPKK Kg Makmur to officially register a brand and logo for their products, highlighting the importance of strategic branding to expand market reach beyond the local community.

He also encouraged the use of digital platforms and community cooperatives to maximise the project’s impact and sustainability.

The initiative began in September 2024 with freshwater fish farming in canvas tanks before expanding to downstream product development.

The project now stands as a model for rural transformation, showcasing how local resources and community spirit can drive sustainable and resilient economic growth.
