TAIPING: An old cinema building was destroyed in a fire at Jalan Panggung Wayang Lama here today.
According to Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, Assistant Director of Operations at the Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), the incident occurred around 6:21 AM.
A total of 21 firefighters from the Taiping and Kamunting Fire and Rescue Stations rushed to the scene.
“A two-storey Class A cinema building was found to be about 60 percent engulfed in flames.
“No casualties were reported. Firefighters extinguished the blaze using two 200-foot hose lines, drawing water from both the fire engine tank and a nearby hydrant.
“The estimated damage is about 75 percent, and the operation was fully concluded at 9:07 AM,” he said in a statement here today.
