MBI to Seize Moveable Assets Over Unpaid Assessment Arrears

By: Rosli Mansor Ahmad Razali

IPOH: Property owners who continue to ignore outstanding assessment tax payments will soon face stern action, with Ipoh City Council (MBI) set to proceed with seizing movable assets shortly.

Ipoh Mayor Datuk Zamakhshari Hanipah said the move was necessary, especially for owners who have failed to adhere to the agreed instalment schedules.

“MBI greatly appreciates owners who have responsibly settled their outstanding assessment tax, as their commitment is vital in ensuring the continuity of inclusive development in the city.

“However, we will not hesitate to enforce movable asset seizures against those who persistently neglect their tax obligations,” he said after chairing the MBI Full Board Meeting at the council’s meeting hall here.

He added that property owners experiencing financial difficulties are encouraged to meet with MBI to discuss more suitable payment plans.

Regarding the assessment tax for the second half of 2025, Zamakhshari stated that bills will be issued starting July 1, based on the updated valuation list.

“The public is encouraged to take advantage of digital facilities such as the DMBI app, the e-Bayaran portal, internet banking, JomPAY, and PBTpay. We have also opened additional counters at UTC Perak and deployed MBI’s mobile counters to make payments more convenient,” he said.

Meanwhile, Zamakhshari said efforts to make Ipoh a Smart City by 2030 are progressing well, with the city now implementing full digital management of parking through PARK@PERAK, Flexi Parking, and Touch ‘n Go eWallet applications.

“To date, there are 47,143 paid parking bays managed by 58 registered digital agents, and enforcement has also been gradually extended to areas such as Bandar Lahat Baru and Taman Badrishah,” he added.
