IPOH: The Tambun pomelo brand has long been synonymous with visitors making their way to Perak.
This cultivation of pomelos continues to enjoy high demand in the market and is a popular choice for gifts to bring home.
In line with this, various efforts have been undertaken to strengthen the industry, including the recent Tambun Pomelo Industry Empowerment Programme held at the Ampang Baru Community Hall.
Simpang Pulai assemblyman Wong Chai Yi said the programme aimed, among other things, to ease the burden of local growers through technical support and appropriate assistance.
“This marks the first-ever initiative of its kind, organised in collaboration with the Perak State Agriculture Department and local Tambun pomelo growers.
“Our goal is to further elevate the Tambun pomelo brand, particularly from the Ampang Baru area, and to cement it as an iconic product of Perak.
“This industry holds tremendous potential, not only in primary agriculture but also in downstream product development,” he said.
Wong also expressed hope that close cooperation with the Kinta District Agriculture Department would continue to strengthen the industry and encourage more new players to enter the agricultural sector.
