IPOH: More than 100 doctors from both the public and private sectors participated in the Orthopaedic Symposium 2025: Latest Updates & Best Practices in Orthopaedics, organized by Perak Community Specialist Hospital (PCSH), which was held at the Kinta Riverfront Hotel here recently.

The symposium, held in collaboration with the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) Perak and supported by the Perak Medical Practitioners’ Society (PMPS), served as a vital platform for knowledge exchange, peer collaboration and professional development in the field of orthopaedics.

Throughout the full-day symposium, participants had the opportunity to hear presentations from PCSH Orthopaedic Surgeons: Dr. Ng Jin Tau, Dr. Yeoh Kian Hua, Dr. Paul Suman Jeya, and Dr. Brandon Lee Keong Joo, as well as Dr. Chua Wei Siong from Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.

The session was chaired by Dato’ Dr. Ramanathan Ramiah.

Key topics included advancements in minimally invasive surgery, robotic-assisted procedures, and multidisciplinary rehabilitation strategies, with focused discussions on osteoarthritis progression, foot and ankle surgery, hand trauma assessment, sports injury management, spine disorders and the role of nutraceuticals in joint health.

The symposium also served as an opportunity for PCSH to share recent and upcoming milestones in orthopaedic and hospital-wide services.

Chairman of the Perak Committee on Human Resources, Health, and Indian Community Affairs, A Sivanesan was alongside Chairman of MMA Perak, Dr Suresh Subramaniam.

In his speech, Sivanesan commended PCSH for its leadership and dedication to medical education.

“This symposium reflects our shared commitment to elevating healthcare standards in Perak and beyond.

“As we face increasing musculoskeletal conditions among our aging population and rising trauma cases, orthopaedic care is more essential than ever.

“I applaud PCSH for creating a platform that not only advances clinical expertise but also fosters collaboration across sectors,” he said.

He further emphasized the human touch behind medical advancements.

“While robotic-assisted surgeries and new technologies are transforming care, it is still the compassion, judgment and skill of our healthcare teams that define patient outcomes.

“Events like this remind us of the importance of coming together to share knowledge and grow as one healthcare community,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of PCSH, Nicholas Chan, said that the trust of patients and the medical community drives continuous innovation and progress.

“We are proud to be a growing centre of excellence in orthopaedics while staying true to our mission of providing affordable, high-quality healthcare,” he said.
