IPOH: The upgrading of Ipoh’s central market will be carried out in phases to ensure business operations can continue while minimising disruption to traders.
The Ipoh City Council (MBI) also held an engagement session with traders and stakeholders to brief them on the implementation of Phase 1A and Phase 1B of the project.
The session, held recently, was chaired by MBI Public Works Department director Ir Ts Haji Arif Mohd Zainudin.
The project’s principal consultant, Beu Tan Architect, and main contractor, Seri Bumi Makmur Sdn Bhd, also attended the session.
During the briefing, traders were informed about the areas involved and the design and layout of the new stalls.
The implementation methods and make-good works involving the interior and exterior of the stalls were also discussed.
MBI also briefed traders on the temporary stall arrangements and relocation plans throughout the construction period.
The phased approach is designed to ensure business activities can continue throughout the project’s implementation.
The engagement session also served as a two-way platform for MBI and traders to identify issues and gather feedback.
The cooperation of traders is particularly important during the relocation process and the handover of work areas to the contractor.
More comfortable, modern and attractive market
The upgrading project includes improvements to lighting, accessibility and supporting facilities.
The food court, plaza, building facade and business stalls will also be upgraded as part of the project.
The improvements are expected to create a more comfortable and conducive environment for traders and visitors.
MBI hopes the cooperation of all parties will ensure the project is implemented according to schedule.
At the same time, the identity of Ipoh’s central market as an economic hub and an important landmark in the city will be preserved.
The transformation is expected to make Ipoh’s central market cleaner, safer, more comfortable, modern and attractive for traders, the community and future generations.
