IPOH: The damaged ‘H’ on the large IPOH sign atop Gunung Lang along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman here needs to be repaired promptly ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
The landmark, which has long stood as a symbol of pride for the city, now appears cracked and incomplete, tarnishing Ipoh’s image as a popular tourist destination.
Shahril Mohamad, 33, from Meru, who frequently travels along the North-South Expressway (PLUS), said the sign is a proud emblem of Ipoh that is visible from the highway.
“This is certainly embarrassing for tourists. The landmark is easily seen from the expressway, and if left in this state, it will stain Ipoh’s reputation.
“Next year is Visit Malaysia Year, so I hope the authorities act quickly to fix it,” he said.
He added that such minor negligence could have a negative impact on the tourism sector, especially on Tourism Perak’s efforts to attract more local and international visitors.
Shahril also urged the responsible parties, including local authorities, to take immediate action to restore the landmark so it continues to stand as a source of pride for Ipoh residents.
