IPOH — The opening of the RM430 million Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh by Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, marks a major leap forward for the state’s healthcare sector and reinforces Perak’s position as a world-class medical and investment hub in northern Malaysia.

As the fifth hospital under the Sunway Healthcare Group, this facility serves as a new catalyst for growth within the Eastern Ipoh Corridor, strengthening Sunway City Ipoh’s reputation as a modern, integrated township.

Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh houses Perak’s first PET-CT scanner and robotic surgical arm system. This milestone is set to transform the landscape of cancer care and orthopaedic surgery in the state.

These cutting-edge facilities not only enhance diagnostic accuracy and treatment outcomes but also reduce the need for Perak residents to seek specialised medical care in other states such as Penang or Selangor.

Despite being operational only since April this year, the hospital has already achieved several significant milestones, including Perak’s first robotic surgery, Endovascular Thrombectomy for stroke treatment, and Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) with Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) — setting new benchmarks in medical excellence for the state.

More importantly, the establishment of this hospital aligns with Malaysia’s aspiration to strengthen its medical tourism sector.

Sunway also plans to develop a senior living suite adjacent to the hospital, creating a holistic, sustainable healthcare-based lifestyle ecosystem.

Overall, the presence of Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh underscores Sunway Healthcare Group’s strong commitment to expanding access to international-standard healthcare services. It also signifies a major private sector investment that will stimulate Perak’s economy and create high-skilled job opportunities for local talent.

In addition, the RM4 billion investment over the next decade in Sunway City Ipoh is expected to generate significant economic spillover through the development of a regional shopping mall, education hub, hotels, and an international convention centre.

Ipoh Echo / Peraktastic believes this milestone should serve as an example of how strategic investments anchored in people-centric progress and technological innovation can drive state development and enhance community well-being.

Sunway isn’t just building a hospital — they are shaping the future of Perak!
