MBI Neglects Damaged Parking Lot, Hotel Excelsior Continues Paying RM9,500 Annual Rent

IPOH – Despite paying RM9,500 annually to the Ipoh City Council (MBI) for its parking lot, the management of Hotel Excelsior claims that the area in front of the hotel has long been left damaged, uneven, and eroded without any maintenance work.

A hotel manager, who declined to be named, said the parking area located along Jalan Sultan Abdul Jalil has become increasingly problematic as rainwater often collects on the uneven surface, making it difficult for bus passengers to alight safely.

“The parking lot can accommodate three to four buses, but every time it rains, water pools up, making it hard for passengers to step down.

“This situation not only inconveniences tourists but also tarnishes the image and credibility of our four-star hotel,” she said.

She added that despite the hotel consistently paying rent to MBI every month, the council has never undertaken any resurfacing or repair work at the site.

“We are expecting many group arrivals by bus next year, and if the situation remains unchanged, it will seriously affect our management operations and the reputation of the hotel,” she said.

She urged MBI to take immediate action to resurface and maintain the parking area, especially ahead of the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 campaign, stressing that the site’s poor condition could leave a negative impression on visitors to the city.
