IPOH: Chinese New Village chiefs have been urged to serve as the government’s eyes and ears while also acting as a bridge between the authorities and the people.

They are also expected to regularly go to the ground and proactively resolve issues faced by the rakyat.

The call was made by Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming during the presentation ceremony of appointment letters to the Chairpersons of the Village Development and Security Committees (JPKK) for Chinese New Villages in Perak.

“The appointments are not merely a recognition, but a great responsibility that requires every village chief to act as the frontliners in conveying government policies, safeguarding the welfare of the people, and preserving community harmony,” he said.

At the ceremony, 160 Chinese New Village chiefs from across Perak received their appointment letters.

This reflects the continued commitment of the MADANI Government in strengthening community wellbeing at the grassroots level.

At the same time, the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) remains committed to empowering the development of Chinese New Villages nationwide.

This is being carried out through four main thrusts, namely development, beautification, tourism, and strengthening local products through the ‘Kampung Good’ initiative.

“To date, a total of 2,750 development projects have been implemented in Chinese New Villages nationwide.

“These include the upgrading of basic infrastructure, construction of public amenities such as parks and food courts, repairs to village roads, as well as the installation of street lights,” he added.

The effort also includes new housing construction and home repair projects to assist those in need.

In Perak, Chinese New Villages remain an important backbone of the local economy, particularly in the Small and Medium Enterprise sector, tourism, and cultural heritage.
