IPOH: Ipoh City Council (MBI), in collaboration with the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) Perak, organised the Night of Music Evolution: Citra Malaysia Colours of Malaysia programme at Dewan Bandaran here last night.
The programme highlighted the journey and development of Malaysian music across various eras.
It was also held in support of the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 campaign, while strengthening Ipoh’s standing as a historic city rich in culture and tourism appeal.


Among those present were Ipoh Mayor Zamakhshari Hanipah and his wife, Kartini Ibrahim.
Also in attendance were JKKN Perak director Hisham Mat Husien and PORT general manager Nur Hanim Dato’ Mohamed Khairuddin.
The showcase brought audiences on a nostalgic journey through the evolution of local music, beginning with the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s before moving into contemporary genres.
The performance combined traditional and modern elements in a colourful production filled with creativity and nostalgia.


Among the main attractions were performances by the Gema Warisan Budaya MBI music ensemble together with the JKKN Perak combo group.
Dance performances by the Gema Warisan Budaya MBI troupe and JKKN Perak dance group also captivated the audience.
The variety of genres presented not only rekindled memories but also highlighted the diversity of Malaysia’s cultural identity that continues to evolve with time.
The programme was also seen as capable of enhancing public appreciation for the nation’s artistic heritage while nurturing younger generations to value and preserve local cultural traditions.
