River water stolen in large quantities, channelled to business premises — Thulsi

By: Aida Aziz

IPOH: Buntong state assemblyman Thulsi Manogaran, in her reply regarding the issue involving Buntong Waterfall, said water there had been stolen in large quantities and diverted to business premises.

She said the irresponsible act had affected the recreational area, with water levels dropping drastically.

“The river water belongs to the people, and that is exactly why it is an offence when one or two individuals steal it.

“Certain parties are stealing water in large quantities, not just one or two litres, and this has caused Buntong Waterfall to no longer remain an attractive recreational spot.

“The water flow has dropped drastically because it is being stolen and channeled to business premises,” she said.

Meanwhile, Ipoh City Council (MBI) councillor Sivam Kali Muthu said the council would not compromise on the matter.

“I will not compromise on the issue of illegal water extraction in the Buntong waterfall area.

“We have already instructed the Perak Water Resources Management Board to take immediate action,” he said.

Previously, the media reported on the issue of water theft at Buntong Waterfall.

The matter was raised by residents and has drawn the attention of the assemblyman and city councillors.
