IPOH — First aid knowledge is crucial as it can help save lives before paramedics arrive.

These basic skills enable individuals to respond quickly and confidently during emergencies, while preventing a victim’s condition from worsening.

The importance of such knowledge was highlighted during the CPR Carnival held in conjunction with World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day celebrations at Masjid Muhammad Al-Fateh in Taman Jati here.

The programme successfully attracted about 700 visitors from various age groups.

It was organised by the Malaysian Red Crescent Youth Committee of Ipoh district in collaboration with the committee of Masjid Muhammad Al-Fateh Taman Jati.

The event aimed to raise public awareness on the importance of emergency assistance and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills.

According to Malaysian Red Crescent Perak secretary Ahmad Syariff Ahmad Tajudin, programmes such as this are important in providing early exposure to the community.

He said the public should know the immediate actions to take when dealing with emergency situations, especially cases involving sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).

“CPR and emergency aid knowledge are not only for medical personnel, but should also be known by the general public, as early action can help save lives,” he said.

Throughout the carnival, various activities were held, including CPR demonstrations and basic first aid training.

Health screenings, dental check-ups, blood donation campaigns, and competitions involving members of the local community were also organised.

The closing ceremony was officiated by Kinta district chief Orang Kaya Kaya Panglima Kinta Seri Amar Bangsa DiRaja, Ab. Wahab Azizul Hassan.
