Back to Work: 7-Eleven and PERKESO Offer Lifeline for Accident Victims and Chronic Patients to Rebuild Their Lives

By Rosli Mansor Ahmad Razali

MERU: “Recovery is not merely about regaining physical strength, but also involves restoring confidence, dignity, and the opportunity to once again contribute meaningfully to society.”

That was the powerful message delivered by 7-Eleven Malaysia Holdings Berhad Chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Annuar Zaini, underscoring the retail giant’s strong commitment in providing a lifeline for individuals who have been affected by accidents or serious health conditions.

A renewed path now awaits Malaysians who have suffered workplace injuries or face long-term health challenges, as they are offered a golden opportunity to rebuild their lives through employment.

The initiative is made possible through a strategic collaboration between the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) and 7-Eleven Malaysia, in full support of PERKESO’s Return to Work (RTW) programme nationwide.

Through this first formal employment-focused collaboration, both parties aim to onboard the first group of RTW participants before the end of 2026, with plans to gradually expand the programme to more locations across the country.

Commenting on the initiative, Annuar stressed that every worker deserves a second chance.

“We are honoured to collaborate with PERKESO in helping individuals transition from rehabilitation into employment. This will allow them to regain independence and contribute meaningfully to society,” he said during the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The MoU signing ceremony was held at the PERKESO National Neuro-Robotics and Cybernics Rehabilitation Centre in Meru, Perak.

The Chairman and members of the PERKESO Board of Directors, Dato’ Seri Subahan Kamal, signed the MoU on behalf of PERKESO.

Under this long-term structured initiative, RTW participants will gain exclusive access to pre-employment training, workplace exposure, and workforce readiness programmes.

More significantly, as Malaysia’s largest convenience store chain with over 2,700 outlets nationwide, the collaboration offers participants the unique advantage of securing job opportunities close to their homes.

Participants will gain real-world experience in retail operations, including customer service management, product handling, and daily store operations, equipping them with long-term practical skills.

To ensure emotional well-being and employee welfare, participants will also receive orientation, on-the-job guidance, supervision, and continuous support within a comfortable, inclusive, and positive working environment.

This bold initiative aims to ensure that no worker is left behind after suffering illness or experiencing life-changing accidents while earning a living.
