By Aida Aziz

IPOH: Continuous heavy rain lasting several hours, coupled with overflowing rivers, has triggered flash floods in two districts in Perak, displacing 71 people from 27 families.

According to the District Disaster Management Committee, the affected areas are Larut, Matang and Selama (LMS) and Manjung.

As a result, two temporary relief centres (PPS) have been activated to accommodate all evacuees — Sekolah Kebangsaan Batu Hampar and Sekolah Kebangsaan Beruas.

A total of 20 evacuees from eight families have been placed at the LMS relief centre, while 51 people from 19 families are being housed at the Manjung facility.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department has forecast generally fair weather across most districts, although afternoon and evening showers are expected in several areas.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as water levels in affected areas remain subject to change following continued rainfall.
