IPOH: The issue of illegal dumping will never be fully resolved without greater public awareness and responsibility towards protecting the environment.
The latest case involves Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Tonggang in Ulu Kinta, where the growing pile of illegally discarded waste has become a cause for concern and poses a risk of contaminating the nearby river.

Ipoh City Council (MBI) chief whip Datuk Mazlan Abd Rahman said the situation could affect the well-being of about 800 residents living in the Orang Asli village.
“I, together with Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Tonggang village head Tok Batin Wan, visited the site of the illegal dumping area to assess the situation on the ground.
“The condition is deeply worrying because the increasing amount of waste not only mars the surrounding landscape but could also lead to various health problems and have a negative impact on the environment.
“I will seek the cooperation of the relevant authorities to ensure immediate action is taken to clear and clean up the area in order to safeguard cleanliness and the well-being of residents,” he said.

Mazlan also issued a stern warning to those who continue to use the area as an illegal dumping site.
“This act is an offence and legal action, including fines, can be imposed on those found responsible.
“Maintaining cleanliness is not solely the responsibility of the government or local authorities, but a shared responsibility among all of us. Let us work together to protect the environment for future generations,” he added.
