IPOH: A total of 271 individuals and 214 motorcycles were inspected during an integrated operation against road bullies along Jalan Pasir Puteh, Station 18 here early Sunday morning.
Ipoh District Police Chief ACP Muhammad Najib Hamzah said the operation, which began at 2.30am, involved 66 officers and personnel from the Ipoh District Police, police volunteers, officers from the Perak Department of Environment and the Pasukan Sahabat.
He said most of those inspected were teenagers and individuals aged between 13 and 35.
“Checks found that 18 motorcycles were seized for offences under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 [Act 333].
“Meanwhile, four individuals were arrested for riding motorcycles recklessly and dangerously under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
“During the same operation, 416 traffic summonses were issued for various offences.
“In addition, the Ipoh District Police, together with the Perak Department of Environment, issued four summonses for offences under Section 48A of the Environmental Quality Act 1974,” he said.
Najib said the Ipoh District Police would continue conducting integrated operations from time to time to strengthen enforcement against road bullies in the district.
He said the operations were also aimed at reducing road accidents and helping to prevent street crime in and around Ipoh.
