IPOH: Some Ipoh residents have praised the authorities for demolishing unauthorised structures along Jalan Pengkalan Barat and Taman Temara near Station 18 recently.
However, they said the road should also be repaired, describing its condition as so bad that driving along it felt like riding in a horse-drawn carriage.
The condition of the road is not a new issue, with many Ipoh residents frustrated by potholes, uneven surfaces and frequent vehicle damage, particularly among motorcyclists.
A complainant, who identified herself as Ayuni Iman, said that since the local authorities had demolished the structures along the road, it was time for the road itself to be improved.
She urged the relevant authorities, particularly the state assemblyman and councillors overseeing the area, to properly resurface the road instead of merely carrying out patchwork repairs that deteriorated again within a short period.
“Many customers of the shops here tend to park indiscriminately along the roadside, making it difficult and dangerous for residents to get out.
“Now that the area has been cleared and there are no longer rows of shops here, we hope the badly damaged roads around Station 18 can be repaired immediately. Driving along them feels like riding a horse.
“Please repair this road. Who doesn’t know about the Station 18 road, which is famously known as the ‘most beautiful road in the world’?” she said.
“Whether it is the state assemblyman, the Public Works Department (JKR) or whoever is responsible for this road, please resurface it properly instead of having it damaged again within two or three months,” she added.
Another Ipoh resident, Hafiz, said he frequently used the road and had found many potholes and unevenly patched sections, posing a danger to road users.
“The condition of Jalan Pengkalan Barat 12 up to Taman Temara is very bad. The relevant authorities should monitor the area and see for themselves the problems faced by road users.
“We hope the authorities will pay attention to the issues raised by the people, as this concerns everyone’s well-being and safety,” he said.
