TELUK INTAN: Senior citizens are among the vulnerable groups increasingly being targeted by online scams.
The concern has prompted the Digital Ministry to step up efforts to enhance digital literacy and cybersecurity awareness within the community.
Digital Ministry Deputy Secretary-General (Digital Development) MA. Sivanesan said the public must not only be digitally literate but also equipped to protect themselves and their families from scam threats.
He said such efforts were also important to ensure technology was harnessed to improve people’s well-being while creating economic opportunities.
“Through the 2026 Digital Ministry Digital Week (MDKD2026), we want to ensure that the public is not only digitally literate but also able to protect themselves and their families from such threats.
“At the same time, the community should make use of technology to improve their quality of life and economic opportunities,” he said at the MDKD2026 Northern Zone programme held at the Teluk Intan Town Hall here on Wednesday.
The programme also focused on micro-entrepreneurs and small businesses through digital literacy initiatives, scam awareness, digital marketing and an introduction to artificial intelligence (AI).
Among the key sessions was a Digital Talk titled ‘Because of a Handphone, Money Flies Away’, which provided insights into scam modus operandi and measures to protect personal and financial information.
Also held were the Digital Talk for Entrepreneurs session titled ‘TikTok Affiliate: Fundamentals and Understanding of Effective Content ’, delivered by Nurul Farhanah Aziz, better known as Cikgu Anna TikTok, as well as a Basic AI and Safe AI Clinic.
The clinic provided an introduction to the fundamentals and potential of AI, including guidance on using the technology safely, ethically and responsibly.
The programme, supported by the Teluk Intan Municipal Council (MPTI), also brought together various agencies and strategic partners through exhibitions and advisory services related to the digital ecosystem.
