IPOH: Women are urged to make breast awareness and early action part of their routine rather than waiting until signs of illness appear.
The message was highlighted during the Pink October 2026 Breast Health Awareness Campaign organised by Pantai Hospital Ipoh in collaboration with Persatuan Pink Champion Perak (PPCP), which was launched yesterday.

Held under the theme “Be Breast Aware”, the campaign emphasises the importance of breast health awareness and early detection of breast cancer.
The launch, held on the ground floor of Medical Mall, Pantai Hospital Ipoh, brought together hospital management, healthcare professionals, PPCP representatives, breast cancer survivors and members of the public.

Among those present were Pantai Hospital Ipoh chief executive officer Tan Kean Hin, chief operating officer Cheong Siew Fong and PPCP chairperson Mardianah.
Also taking part in the programme were Pantai Hospital Ipoh Person-in-Charge and colorectal surgeon Dr Sarkunnathas, general surgeon and PPCP adviser Dr Sumithra Sivasuntharam, and medical oncologist and PPCP adviser Dr Mohd Syafizul Nuhairi.

A key highlight of the event was the sharing by Madam Komala, a breast cancer survivor, who spoke about her personal journey in dealing with the disease.
Her experience underscored the importance of courage, awareness and early action in facing breast cancer.
As part of the campaign, Pantai Hospital Ipoh nurses will also offer complimentary breast examinations on selected days throughout October, alongside breast cancer awareness and Breast Self-Examination (BSE) education.

The campaign will be held on October 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 19, 20, 21, 27, 28 and 29, 2026, at the Ground Floor, Medical Mall, Pantai Hospital Ipoh.
Pantai Hospital Ipoh and PPCP hope the campaign will encourage more women to “Be Breast Aware”, understand the importance of early detection and take proactive steps to safeguard their breast health.
