KLANG: More than 160,000 vehicles are expected to use the West Coast Expressway (WCE) daily in conjunction with Deepavali this Sunday.

WCE is stepping up its operational readiness to manage the anticipated traffic surge and ensure smooth traffic flow and prompt emergency assistance.
The projection forms part of the 3.28 million vehicles expected to use major highways nationwide during the festive peak period, according to the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM).
WCE will also temporarily suspend construction and maintenance works involving lane closures from Nov 6 to 10, except for urgent repairs and emergency works.
Highway patrol teams, the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and tow trucks will be on standby at strategic locations to assist motorists facing breakdowns or accidents.
Meanwhile, eligible Class 1 vehicle users will enjoy a 50 per cent toll discount on Nov 6 and 7.
Motorists can also use the WCE mobile application to check real-time traffic updates, CCTV feeds, route guidance and highway facilities.
Six Rest and Recreation (R&R) stops are also available, offering parking spaces, prayer rooms and toilets, with food stalls at selected locations.
WCE Managing Director Lyndon Alfred Felix said motorists’ cooperation was essential in ensuring road safety throughout the festive period.
He advised motorists to check their vehicles, observe speed limits, maintain a safe distance and take breaks whenever they feel tired.
Motorists are also encouraged to plan their journeys in advance and check their Touch ‘n Go card and e-wallet balances before travelling.
