Ensuring Full Adherence to SOPs in the Distributive Trade Sector

The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) is committed to aid the government in enforcing the standard operating procedures (SOPs) of MCO 3.0 under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act (Act 342).

To ensure full adherence to the SOPs of the Distributive Trade Sector at business premises and restaurants, a total of 2,262 enforcement officers throughout the country were mobilised.

The enforcement department of KPDNHEP explained in a statement that from May 13, 2020 till June 11, 2021, a total of 590,876 premises were checked and out of them, 346 compounds worth RM2.36 million were issued for various violations of SOPs.

According to the statistics, the level of compliance in the distributive trade sector is encouraging, with 98.52% of premises adhering to the SOPs.

“Enforcement action from June 1 till 11 saw a total of 160 cases of companies and individuals under the Act 342 with compound value totaling to RM1,091,500.

“Based on statistics, a total of 74 complaints were received from members of the public and all have been investigated during the period of MCO 3.0,” the statement added. 

The Ministry urges all industry players under the distributive trade sector to ensure full adherence to SOPs by employees and consumers.

Owners of business premises are urged to be constantly proactive and alert to ensure maximum level of compliance with SOPs for the safety of respective premises as well as prevention of new clusters of COVID-19.

Cooperation from all in the sector is vital to strike a balance between sustainability of the domestic economy, control of COVID-19 outbreak and protecting the health of the people.
