Year 2022 Targeted to Boost State Tourism

The state government has set the target for the tourism sector recovery period to receive about 14 million domestic visitors and 6 million overnight visitors to come to the state next year.

According to statistics, a total of 13.7 million visitors have visited the state throughout last year, making Perak the second state to receive the most visitors after Selangor.

Executive Councillor for Housing, Local Government and Tourism, Dato’ Nolee Ashilin binti Dato’ Mohammed Radzi said the arrival of tourists to the state has successfully generated RM2.347 billion to the state economic cycle.

According to her, the reopening of the tourism sector since October 2021 has been welcomed by all with Pangkor Island, the cities of Ipoh Geopark, and Taiping Heritage City among the main tourism destinations.

“To drive tourism recovery, the state government has planned a Special Programme under the Economic Stimulus Package Allocation, namely the Perak Tourism Recovery Programme (DReAM).

“The programme is set to benefit tourists besides impacting the socio economy of food entrepreneurs (gastronomy), operators and staff of accommodations (homestay, chalet, resort and hotel), tourist guides and boat drivers,” she said during the wrapping up session of her portfolio at the state assembly sitting yesterday.

Nolee explained that the tourism sector also benefits operators of transportation, service delivery such as cleaning and safety companies, event organisation companies and vendors of souvenirs.

“Publicity efforts will be intensified via new packages for domestic and international markets. Among the suitable packages for Perak and the northern states are rail tourism, UNESCO World Heritage Site, geotourism and coffee maps.

“Let’s not forget the heritage trails at Batu Gajah, Taiping and Teluk Intan, as well as the Coffee Trail that is in the pipeline. A marketing management system is most vital for successful publicity,” she added.
