The popular Tuesday night market at Medan Ipoh will be temporarily relocated to Jalan Medan Ipoh 2 (Service Road) starting 22 July 2025, to make way for ongoing resurfacing and road improvement works in the area. The new site offers better road conditions, increased visibility, and safer pedestrian access while works are underway.

During a site briefing attended by YB Howard Lee, YB Jenny Choy, and Ipoh City Council officials, including City Secretary Tuan Ahmad Munir; the public is urged to cooperate with temporary changes and view them as part of a broader effort to modernise infrastructure in support of local communities.
Roadworks will take place in stages from 21 July to mid-October 2025, between 9.00 AM and 7.00 PM daily.

MBI has issued official notices to affected premises. All shopowners and visitors are advised not to park along road shoulders or within the work areas during this period to avoid delays or enforcement action.
“These road upgrades are a manifestation of our commitment to improve daily life for the people of Ipoh. By creating safer, more accessible, and better-managed spaces, we’re supporting businesses, easing traffic, and laying the groundwork for a more connected and vibrant city,” said YB Howard Lee.
Under the BP.1 allocation from the Ministry of Local Government Development (KPKT), a total of RM1.374 million has been channelled to upgrade seven roads spanning 3.125 kilometres.

The following roads are included in the upgrade:
- Jalan Medan Ipoh Service Road 2
- Jalan Medan Ipoh 1
- Jalan Medan Ipoh 11
- Jalan Medan Ipoh 6 Service Road
- Jalan Medan Ipoh 6
- Jalan Medan Ipoh 6 Service Road 1
- Lebuh Medan Ipoh
The upgrades aim to reduce congestion, ease the parking shortage, and provide smoother, safer road conditions. Businesses in the area are expected to benefit from the enhanced accessibility and neater layout.

YB Jenny Choy added that while the upgrades may cause some short-term disruption, they represent long-overdue improvements to a bustling commercial zone. She noted that systematic planning and resurfacing are essential to support economic activity and the evolving needs of residents.
Residents and business owners are also reminded to stay alert for unauthorised paving offers. According to YB Howard, there have been cases where contractors approached premises nearby, offering to tar or pave driveways and side roads for a fee. These offers are not sanctioned by the city council and should be reported.
