IPOH— The recurring problem of cable theft and missing manhole covers in the city has once again sparked concern, with the latest incident reported at the junction leading to Medan Istana.
A visit by Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic to the site following a public complaint found another uncovered manhole, posing a serious safety hazard to road users, especially motorcyclists.

Local resident Mohd Radwan Ibrahim, 53, said such incidents have been occurring more frequently, particularly in areas with poor lighting.
“I’m worried this could lead to accidents if left unattended. The road here is quite dark because large trees block the streetlights. Car drivers might still be able to avoid it, but for motorcyclists, the risk of falling is very high,” he said when met.

He urged the authorities to take immediate action to replace the missing covers and curb the growing problem of cable and metal thefts.
“The authorities should tighten patrols and monitor suspicious activities. Don’t wait for another tragedy before taking action,” he added.
The persistent issue of cable and manhole thefts not only endangers road users but also reflects poorly on the overall public safety image of Ipoh city.
