IPOH: A man’s attempt to demand RM300 from a motorcyclist while pretending to be a police officer backfired when he was arrested.
The incident occurred early Saturday morning in front of a restaurant in Taman Ipoh Timur Baru, Bercham.
A video of the incident went viral on Facebook after being shared by members of the public, showing the suspect dressed like a traffic police officer stopping a motorcyclist.
Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, said the suspect, in his 20s, stopped the victim and claimed the motorcycle had been modified.
He demanded RM300 as a bribe to avoid a fine.
“The victim, suspicious of the situation, contacted a friend before calling the police.
“The suspect was eventually arrested along with several items used for impersonation.
“These included a reflective vest labeled ‘Bike Rescue,’ a cap and shoes with police logos, two Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycles, a walkie-talkie communication device, and several official PDRM logo stickers,” he said in a statement.
Abang Zainal also advised the public not to be easily deceived by individuals claiming to be police officers without showing valid identification.
Anyone facing suspicious situations is urged to report immediately to the authorities.
