Iconic ‘IPOH’ Sign to Be Repaired, Material to Be Upgraded in Early 2026

IPOH: Works to replace the iconic “IPOH” sign are expected to be carried out early next year.

The confirmation was made by Ipoh City Council (MBI) Councillor Mohamed Helmi Mohamed Fuzi in response to a report published by Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic yesterday.

He said the repair works will be undertaken by a contractor appointed by MBI using allocations from the 2026 budget.

“Indeed, the ‘IPOH’ lettering is already in the process of being replaced. It was informed during a recent meeting that the sign would be changed to one made of better-quality material.

“The replacement works will utilise the 2026 allocation. God willing, the contractor selection process will begin early next year,” he said on Monday.

Yesterday, Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic reported public complaints regarding the iconic landmark bearing the ‘IPOH’ lettering, which requires immediate repair as the damaged letter ‘H’ has marred its appearance.

One social media user commented that the damage is clearly visible and can be seen from the highway when approaching the Ipoh exit.
