A family with a young child, all masked,
was in the elevator with me today

Barely two feet tall, the child, unprompted by her parents,
said  “Good-morning”, and I nodded absently
with my un-coffeed head

When it was time for them to alight, one floor before me,
she said again in her wee voice, “Bye-bye!”

Then, as a bonus, held her tiny hand to her tiny flowery mask,
her smiley eyes all aglow,

and blew me a kiss

There can be no better way to start your day–
a reminder that even as we descend, we can be lifted

That innocence can defy gravity, pass through masks and walls,
and tip-toe into the steeliest of hearts
