IPOH: Volunteers from various racial backgrounds joined forces to collect and remove rubbish trapped at the Jalan Raja Bridge in Gugusan Manjoi, which had overflowed following the recent floods.
One of the volunteers, Manjoi resident Eddie, said they had agreed to gather in the morning to collect plastic bottles, polystyrene containers and various waste materials that had obstructed the river’s flow.

He expressed gratitude that many people were willing to come forward and help clean the affected area.
“Today’s programme involved volunteers of different races, and I would like to thank everyone who turned up to help collect and gather the rubbish around this bridge.
“We also thank the Ipoh City Council (MBI) personnel who assisted in loading the collected waste into lorries,” he said.

Earlier, images showing piles of rubbish trapped along the river beside the bridge went viral, as the waste had obstructed the river’s smooth flow.
Among the debris found were plastic beverage bottles, plastic containers, food packaging, wood and other solid waste.
The situation reflects the irresponsible behaviour of certain individuals who dispose of rubbish into rivers, contributing to recurring flash floods.
