Raising public awareness about the risks of using unregistered medicines

IPOH: Many people in the community are unaware of the risks of using illegal or unregistered medicines.

Such medicines can pose a high risk to health, including organ damage, serious side effects, and even death.

These medicines often contain toxins, harmful substances, or incorrect, or no active ingredients at all, making the treatment ineffective and potentially life-threatening to users.

As part of an awareness effort, the Pharmaceutical Enforcement Branch of the Perak State Health Department went out to distribute Reject Illegal Medicines (Tolak Ubat Tidak Sah or TOBaTS) Campaign Kits .

This time, they chose the Ramadan Bazaar at Stadium Ipoh as the venue.

The programme was accompanied by the Head of the Perak Pharmaceutical Enforcement Branch, Zaidi Ahmad, together with the Chairman of the Perak Malay Hawkers and Small Traders Association (Kinta District branch), Zahari Abd Murad.

The TOBaTS campaign is an initiative by the Ministry of Health Malaysia aimed at combating the supply and sale of medicines that violate the law in the country.

It is also part of the Pharmaceutical Enforcement Division Action Plan 2024, which focuses on awareness and prevention efforts among the public.

Through the programme, members of the public were given explanations and campaign kits to increase awareness about the dangers of using illegal medicines.

In this regard, the public is advised to always remain cautious and reject the use of unregistered or suspicious medicines.
