Two Men Arrested for Attempted Theft of TM Cables in Taman Rapat Setia Baru

IPOH: Two local men have been arrested for allegedly attempting to steal cables belonging to Telekom Malaysia (TM) in the Taman Rapat Setia Baru area here recently.

Ipoh district police chief ACP Muhammad Najib Hamzah said police detected a viral video on social media platform X on May 31 showing two men behaving suspiciously while opening a Telekom Malaysia distribution box (DB).

“The viral video of the incident can be viewed through the following link: https://x.com/anwarfadzil/status/2060699184630825290.

“Investigations found that no cables were stolen, but there were signs of an attempt to open and rummage through the distribution box,” he said in a statement on Monday.

He said the two local suspects, aged 34 and 38, were arrested at about 1 am on June 1 at a restaurant in the Bercham area.

“Background checks revealed that one of the suspects has one criminal record and seven drug-related records, while the other suspect has three criminal records.

“Police also seized a red Proton Persona believed to have been used during the incident, along with several other items to assist in the investigation,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 379/511 of the Penal Code for attempted theft.

The Ipoh District Police Headquarters expressed its appreciation to members of the public who provided information and urged anyone with information related to criminal activities to contact the Ipoh District Police Headquarters at 05-2451500 or the nearest police station to assist in investigations.
