170kg of subsidised cooking oil was seized from a foreign national

IPOH: A total of 170 kilograms (kg) of 1kg packets of cooking oil of various brands were discovered in a storage area that was being used as a living quarters in the Lahat Industrial Area on Monday.

Perak Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail said the seizure was the result of a raid conducted under Ops Tiris 4.0 following a public complaint.

“During the raid, a total of 170kg of 1kg packets of cooking oil of various brands was found in the residential room.

“A Bangladeshi man who claimed to be the tenant of the premises informed enforcement officers that the cooking oil did not belong to him.

“In the operation, a 39-year-old Bangladeshi man, who is the tenant of the room, was detained to assist in the investigation,” he said today.

Kamalludin said the foreign national also failed to produce any valid authorisation documents from the Malaysian Supply Controller for dealings involving controlled goods.

As a result, the 170kg of packet cooking oil and several related documents were seized, with the total value of the confiscated items estimated at RM425.

The case is being investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961 and the Supply Control Regulations 1974.
