No compromise on poor road resurfacing works, repairs must be done to standard

IPOH: There will be no compromise with any party if road resurfacing works are carried out below the required specifications and standards.

This is the principle upheld by Ipoh City Council councillor for the Canning zone, Lam Yew Tact, who said the quality of resurfacing works carried out after excavation works had previously been highly unsatisfactory.

“In early February, I was informed that excavation works along Jalan Lau Pak Khuan and Jalan Merpati by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) for the replacement of old cables would be fully completed, including resurfacing, by the end of February.

“However, during my inspection in March, I found that the resurfacing works had not yet been carried out. I raised the matter with the Public Works Department, which then forwarded it to TNB for immediate action.

“In April, I was informed that resurfacing works had been carried out. However, site inspections revealed that the quality was very poor, with the asphalt laid too thin and failing to meet the required standards.

“I raised the issue again in a meeting to ensure corrective action was taken,” he said.

He added that in May, TNB carried out the resurfacing works in accordance with the required specifications, successfully resolving the complaint.

“I want to stress that I will not accept or compromise on any unsatisfactory work.

“Whether it involves TNB, LAP, IWK, TM or any other agency, every complaint will be raised until proper rectification works are carried out.

“Simply put, any work that does not meet the specified standards will be rejected and must be rectified until it is satisfactory,” he stressed.
