IPOH: Illegal street racing and reckless riding by “Mat Rempit” groups continue to plague residents of Olive Grove in Taman Pakatan Jaya, with locals claiming the problem has become increasingly severe.
A resident alleged that no visible action has been taken by the authorities to address the issue, adding that illegal racing activities in the area have become more frequent and brazen.
The resident recently shared video footage purportedly showing illegal racing activities that endangered other road users and members of the public in the neighbourhood.
“I hope the elected representatives or the relevant authorities in this area will do something because this illegal racing problem has been going on for a long time.
“So far, no effective measures have been taken to ensure the safety of residents,” the resident said.

Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic previously reported on illegal racing activities in the area, which have resulted in excessive noise late at night and posed a danger to residents, particularly children, senior citizens and other road users.
Many residents have reportedly raised similar concerns, claiming the issue has persisted for years despite complaints being lodged with the relevant authorities.
“Many residents feel uncomfortable because vehicles are being driven at high speeds and in a dangerous manner within a residential area that is supposed to be peaceful and safe.
“There are also vehicles parked indiscriminately along the roadside, making it difficult for residents to enter and leave their homes.
“Residents hope the authorities, including the police and relevant agencies, will take immediate and stricter action to curb these illegal racing activities from continuing unchecked.
“Regular patrols, roadblocks and legal action should be implemented to ensure the safety, peace and wellbeing of residents in Olive Grove are protected,” another resident said.
