On 11 July, the Yayasan Ipoh (YI) Convention Centre was transformed with vibrant laughter. The Early Intervention Programme (EIP) and Day-care joined hands with the Occupational Therapy (OT) and Speech Therapy (ST) Units, to proudly stage their highly anticipated annual Sports Day. Guided by the theme, “Every Child Shines,” the morning proved that barriers exist only to be broken.
The landmark event brought together 52 children alongside a crowd of over 300 parents, family members, educators and dedicated therapists.
Running from 7:45 AM to 12:00 PM, the day was intricately engineered to put a spotlight on the hard-won progress of children across a spectrum of abilities.

Among the champions of the day were children navigating Autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, Global Developmental Delay (GDD), Nail-Patella Syndrome, Learning Disabilities, Cri-du-chat Syndrome, hydrocephalus, speech delay, and Prader-Willi Syndrome. Each demonstrating that no diagnosis can dim a child’s inner light.
The day kicked off with a welcome address by Dato’ Dr. Ramanathan Ramaiah, the CEO of Yayasan Ipoh. Then shifted into a high-energy Zumba and Aerobics warm-up session, which saw children, parents, and teachers moving and rhythmic unison.
The young athletes were grouped into four teams. Group activities were tailored to feature obstacle courses, interactive ball games, and sensory coordination challenges specifically calibrated to meet diverse developmental milestones.

Following the team events, individual games also took place. This allowed every child their moment in the spotlight, allowing them to showcase their unique talents at their own comfortable pace. Flanking the wall of proud parents were the EIP educators and therapists, who cheered tirelessly.
The organising committee shared that Sports Day 2026 was strategically blue printable to bolster gross motor development, sensory integration, and social self-confidence among the cohort. Crucially, it fused EIP educators, multidisciplinary therapy squads, and immediate family members into a support network, with the vision that every child, without exception, deserves an uninhibited platform to shine, irrespective of the developmental mountains they must climb.
