Ipoh Hosts 2026 Malaysian Medical Association Convention and Scientific Congress

Ipoh is preparing to welcome one of Malaysia’s largest medical gatherings of 2026 when the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) holds its National Convention and Scientific Congress at AC Hotel by Marriott Ipoh from September 10 to 12.
Held alongside the association’s 66th Annual General Meeting, the convention returns to Perak after 15 years.
Organisers expect the gathering to bring approximately 1,000 people to Ipoh. This includes more than 500 doctors, medical specialists and other participants, together with accompanying family members and distinguished guests from Malaysia and the region.
The scale of the gathering places Ipoh at the centre of important national conversations about medicine, healthcare delivery and the future of the profession. It also demonstrates the city’s growing ability to host conferences, attracting leaders and professionals from across the country.
The scientific programme will feature clinical lectures, expert presentations, panel discussions and case-based sessions covering medical practice and the changing healthcare landscape.
Dr. Monesh said the convention had been carefully designed as a comprehensive and multidisciplinary scientific congress. It will bring together respected speakers and experts to share insights and discuss the latest developments affecting healthcare professionals and the communities they serve.
“Beyond the academic sessions, the convention also provides an excellent opportunity to reconnect with colleagues, renew friendships and build new professional networks from across the country,” he said.
A central feature of the opening programme on September 10 will be a forum titled “The Future of Malaysia’s Healthcare Workforce”.
The forum will feature MMA President Datuk Dr Thirunavukarasu Rajoo, IHH Healthcare Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Dr Kamal Amzan and Perak State Health Department Director Dato’ Dr Feisul Idzwan bin Mustapha.
Bringing together perspectives from the government, MMA and the private healthcare sector, the discussion will examine the challenges facing Malaysia’s healthcare workforce and what must be done to build a sustainable national healthcare system.
Organisers also expect the directors of eight hospitals in Perak and the chief executive officers of five private hospitals to attend.
Alongside the scientific congress and 66th MMA Annual General Meeting, the programme includes three social evenings, as well as golf and pickleball activities at venues across Ipoh. These include the Lost World of Tambun and Kinta Golf Club.
The gathering is expected to generate business for the city’s hotels, restaurants, transport providers, tourism attractions and other local enterprises.
“Ipoh, renowned for its rich historical heritage and celebrated culinary offerings, provides the perfect backdrop for this gathering,” Dr Monesh said.
“The MMA Perak Branch is delighted to introduce participants to the uniqueness of Perak, particularly the city of Ipoh.
“They can also bring their families and take the opportunity to explore and enjoy the attractions and sights of Perak during their stay,” he added.
As medical leaders and delegates gather under the scientific theme “Thriving in Practice: Resilience, Research & Renewal”, Ipoh will have the opportunity to present itself as a city capable of welcoming national events with warmth and confidence.
