For 115 years, the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) Perak Branch has helped businesses find the right connections, understand changing requirements and take their concerns to the government.
This year MICCI Perak celebrated its longevity on 4 September in the Grand Ballroom at WEIL Hotel, Ipoh. The occasion drew a full turnout of business leaders, government representatives, members and partners.
Guest of Honour YB Mr. Loh Sze Yee, Chairman of the Perak State Executive Committee for Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development, joined MICCI Perak Branch Chairman Mr. Jean-François Chavériat, Vice-Chairman I Mr. Nicholas Goh and Vice-Chairman II Mr. Har Wai Ming for the occasion.
In his opening address, Mr. Jean-François said the milestone represented 115 years of relationships, trust and commitment to Perak’s business community.
He said MICCI’s relevance lies in connecting business experience with policy discussions and bringing useful information back to its members.
For businesses, this means access to government agencies, regulatory information, training, recruitment support and commercial networks. MICCI also gives companies a collective voice on taxation, infrastructure, investment conditions and other issues affecting their operations.
During 2026, MICCI Perak connected members with MITI, MIDA, PERKESO and MyFutureJobs. It also organised engagements on LuMIC, smart manufacturing and data protection, worked with PKNPk on the POWER UP RM1 Billion CEO Programme and strengthened international connections through the British Malaysia Society.
MICCI represented business interests in federal discussions on Budget 2027, trade, taxation, logistics and supply chain security. The Perak Branch was also a strategic partner in Invest in Perak Day 2026.
As companies face growing responsibilities involving cybersecurity, ESG, e-invoicing and data protection, Mr. Jean-François called for closer consultation between government and industry.
“Businesses are not asking for an environment without rules. We are asking for clear and practical rules, less bureaucracy and, wherever possible, greater simplicity,” he said.
Mr. Jean-François also urged continued support for companies already operating in Perak. These businesses provide employment, investment and technical knowledge, with many ready to expand when conditions allow.
In his address, YB Loh congratulated MICCI Perak on its 115th anniversary and acknowledged its longstanding role as a bridge between businesses, investors and government.
He said Perak is pursuing quality investments that create higher-value employment, strengthen local supply chains and develop talent.
Major investment destinations include the Kerian Integrated Green Industrial Park, Silver Valley Technology Park, Lumut Maritime Industrial City and the Automotive High-Tech Valley in Tanjung Malim.
YB Loh said Perak could complement the semiconductor ecosystems in Penang and Kulim through its established electrical and electronics sector, strategic location and available industrial land.
InvestPerak’s role as a one-stop investment facilitation agency is also being strengthened to help investors navigate approvals and move projects towards implementation.
“Our ambition is to build a Perak that is investment-friendly, business-friendly and talent-friendly,” said YB Loh.
For the community, this could mean better employment, stronger local suppliers and greater opportunities for young Perakians to build their futures within the state.
The evening also recognised the relationships behind MICCI Perak’s longevity. Hexza Corporation Berhad and HSBC Bank received 40-Year Long Standing Membership Awards for four decades of commitment to the chamber.
After 115 years, MICCI Perak remains focused on helping businesses connect, adapt and prepare for what comes next.
